hut on a roof 1

Intricately designed and compact, the Hut-on-a-roof is an entirely timber ‘mini-building’ dropped into the Clerkenwell roofscape to create an autonomous urban haven and working kitchen for a local designer. With a sliding glass roof, solar panels, wood-burning stove and sheep’s wool insulation the building takes ideas from both hide-away tree houses and the suburban garden shed.

A musician couple living in a Victorian detached house in north London approached My Architect to unlock the potential of their home. My Architect converted the loft and created a whole new living space at the top of the house complete with built-in storage and inset sun terrace to overlook their beautiful garden.

Go up

Increasing numbers of people are now deciding that it’s better to go up rather than out. Attics and roofs can be transformed into new spaces that are practical, quiet and full of light. With rising property prices, increasing population densities and smaller houses; we all need to make the most of the building footprints we have.

An upwards extension may involve the conversion of an existing roof space, or a new structure being built on top. My Architect will creatively explore all the possible options and construction methods.
